Legend about the origin of the names of the village of Luta and the village of Marchevo, Montana district

Somewhere in the Middle Ages during some of the crusades in the 13th-14th centuries or during the attacks of the Turks, during their invasion of the Balkans, the population of the villages in the region gathered on the great Christian holiday of Easter in the church “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker” in the village of Lyuta on an Easter ball. In those years, the entire population of the now defunct village of Golyamo Marchevo went to the holiday. Only the oldest and the youngest remained in the village.

The village was attacked, set on fire and people abducted or killed. A grandmother who escaped from the heights of the Ogosta River began shouting at the celebrants: “People, people, your angry lump has only remained since your village darkened.” From gloom, gloom remains the name Mrachevo, Mrachevo, Marchevo.

For Luta, its name remains because of the hot lump, as the church / monastery / is in this village.
